Museum Map
All the works on restoration of the monastery and landscaping have been performed in cooperation of Rekovac Municipality, The Institution for Protection of the Culture Monuments of the Republic of Serbia and local community. The Ministry for Culture, The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services and The Ministry of Environment assisted by providing support in design of the required projects.

Open-air Museum "Kalenic" was founded in 2003 with multiple purpose. One of the objectives is to preserve the environment around Kalenic Monastery, natural resources, popular construction, traditional crafts and to present them in the best light. The concept of the open-air museum offers the possibility of a self-sustaining development of this place.
The crafts we mentioned above may have more than one positive effect on the well-being of the local community. Some of the aspects which the development of this institution may have an influence on are: employment, trade in the goods produced within the local community, education of the citizens, better connections with other parts of Serbia. In this way, Kalenicki Prnjavor may become a village with improved life quality, Kalenic Monastery, which will celebrate its 600th anniversary in the year of 2007, may retrieve its spiritual role, which it had during Despot Stefan Lazarevic's rule.
During the two years after its foundation, the Museum worked on, among other activities, on the design of the required documents regarding the infrastructure necessary for the elementary conditions for development of the protected area of Kalenic Monastery. After the Detailed Plan of Regulation was designed, the following projects were designed: the project for The Kalenicka River and the stream of Kosutnjak regulation,
the project for Water and Wastewater Network Construction, The Water Treatment Plant Project, The Project for the Adaptation and Construction of the Museum's Head Office at the center of the village, as well as the Project for Sanitary Facilities for the visitors of "Prodjoh Levac, Prodjoh Srbiju" Fair, and the locker room for the participants.
The premises of the Museum are seated within the building of "Dusan Popovic" Primary School, at the center of the village of Kalenicki Prnjavor. Since there are no lessons at this school, due to the lack of pupils, its building was reconstructed and used temporarily as a space for permanent exhibitions and auctions of works of the naive artists belonging to Oparic School, and folk arts and crafts.
